TRANSFORMING FEAR FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF LIVING IN ALIGNMENT
The more identified you are with your human self/ humanity, the more likely you’ll be to live in a fear-based reality. This occurs because your mind/ intellect is limited to the confines of societal conditioning as opposed to deferring to your Soul (Source energy within) for guidance. When you’re externally resourced, your focus is on your human needs and wants and not the needs of your Soul. Furthermore, when you are externally resourced you don’t have access to the ‘bigger picture’ view of your life (such as the significance of your presence and experiences, the fact that your life has meaning and purpose, and that you’re intended to live up to your full potential and experience Soul fulfillment.
Your human self is affected by fear in four primary ways:
1. Psychological presentations of fear: being in denial, minimizing, rationalizing, spouting doom and gloom, jumping to conclusions, awfulizing, catastrophizing; also, adopting black and white thinking or feeling overwhelmed, threatened, worried, apprehensive, confused, discouraged, hopeless.
2. Emotional presentations of fear: experiencing anxiety, doubt, ambivalence, irritability, terror, panic, angst, dread, etc.
3. Physical presentations of fear: fatigue, tightness in the body, nervousness, restlessness, stuck energy, uneasiness, jitters, etc.
4. Behavioral presentations of fear: isolation, escapism, substance and/or process addictions, avoidance, dissociation, overworking, resistance, impulsive and/or reactive behavior, etc.
The following concepts and suggestions are tried and true methods to manage fear and transform your fear into self-empowerment. Try them out and allow them to become part of your spiritual practice. You’re not expected nor is it necessary to use these methods perfectly, develop the attitude that practice makes better...
Change equates to fear for the human self (to a lesser or greater degree). Normalize that fear is a human emotion and part of the human experience. From the perspective of Living in Alignment the less connected your human self is to your Soul, the more it will live in a fear-based reality. Until a new default mode (connecting with and deferring to your soul for directives) is established and becomes automatic, there will be a tendency for your mind to revert back to the old default mode of having fear in the driver’s seat.
Accept fear by recognizing it and being with it.
Utilize the three-step protocol: (1) identify when you’re feeling fear;(2) give it a voice (i.e., gain clarity as to what is causing your fear); (3) determine the appropriate course of action to effectively manage/ deal with your fear (i.e., focus on finding a solution).
Remember to breathe when you’re feeling fearful, the oxygen will calm your body and help quiet your mind. Breathe in the quality of courage to face your fear.
Develop functional internal boundaries (with your mind) to prevent your human self/ mind from awfulizing, catastrophizing, futurizing when experiencing fear.
Allow fear to serve as a cue to become internally resourced. Go inward to connect with your Soul to gain perspective on what is happening as well as to receive guidance from your Soul on how best to deal with the situation.
Separate your fear out from other people’s fear. Many people take on other people’s fear and/or the collective fear. Ask yourself, “Is this my fear?”
Be careful not to take on other people’s realities (their beliefs/cognitions, emotions, experiences, conditions).
While not taking it on, normalize the constant undercurrent of fear in our society and the world at large (a result of getting caught up in your or others peoples drama that ensues when you’re being overly identified with your humanity).
Keep in the forefront that the more your human self/ intellect defers to and relies on your Soul the less time you’ll spend being fearful.
It is your human self that experiences fear, NOT your Soul.
When you are in fear you are functioning at a lower energy frequency, and whatever you are afraid of will be transformed as you increase your energy frequency.
Increase your energy frequency by having fun, taking in beauty, embracing humor, doing art work, visualizing yourself being empowered, viewing inspirational movies, listening to music, doing yoga, dancing, praying, meditating, taking walks in nature, exercising, holding an intention to increase your energy frequency, etc.
Use breath to increase your energy frequency (breathe in the qualities you are needing in the moment) in order to calm your body and quiet your mind.
Offer tender loving care to your human self by attending to your safety, enjoying a nutritious diet, getting sufficient sleep and exercise, utilizing the qualities of an open heart to be with yourself, offer positive affirmations to yourself, etc.
Carefully decide how to expend your energy by being mindful about what you think about, your behaviors, and activities you choose to engage in.
Use discernment in choosing the people and organizations you associate with as well as what you do together. Tune into the impact of the dynamic to intuit whether or not it satisfying, nurturing, and/ or enhances individual growth.
Don’t place emphasis on fear; instead, focus on what you want to be experiencing.
When feeling fearful, send out an SOS to your Soul for assistance on how to best deal with your fear in here and now of your experiencing.
Expand your consciousness by tuning into the experiences and events that are happening and discover the possibilities/ opportunities being offered within the situation.
Let fear be your clue to keep your heart and mind open to to your human self, to your circumstances, and to the people involved.
Instead of trying to figure out what is happening, feel into what is happening. More specifically, tune into and receive the insights, gifts, and lessons that are being offered.
Listen for and receive guidance from the Soul (ask for clarification, affirmation, confirmation) every day regarding the aspects of your life that require your attention.
Guidance from your Soul is offered in many ways ( such as through people who are being a voice piece for your Soul, through your dreams, ideas being directly transmitted to your mind, through books, music, while in nature, in meditation, etc.).
Create sanctuary space in your home and tap into the energy that is generated in these spaces to neutralize/ dissipate your fear.
Use fear as an opportunity to deepen your trust in your process, in your journey, and with your Soul mission.
Yield to your Soul’s directives. Trust that more shall be revealed about the experiences or events that are taking place in your life on an as-needed basis and wait for clarity on your next step.
Be willing to be in an ‘unknowing’ place during a ‘waiting period.’ A lot is happening behind the scenes before you receive directives from your Soul regarding the next appropriate step to take along your path.
Have an attitude of gratitude that what is happening in your daily experiencing is of significance and that the information you are requesting from your Soul will be forthcoming.
In your daily living identify and claim what it is you want to be experiencing instead of focusing on what you don’t want.
Stay clear about your intentions, objectives, goals, and longings.
Keep in the forefront that all the circumstances in your life are serving/ benefiting you in one or more ways.
If need be, seek out support from family, friends, and/ or professionals to process your fear.
Remove yourself from environments and/ or people who feel unsafe to you.
Use discernment in filtering energy input. Monitor incoming information closely: such as people, news, environments that produce fear and remove yourself accordingly from the trigger.
Reframe what is happening in your own life, among those around you, as well as in the world. Look for insights, gifts, and lessons everywhere.
Focus on finding the solution to problems instead of focusing on the problem itself.
When in fear, do not abandon yourself. Instead, recognize when you’re feeling fearful and come to your own rescue.
Exercise to release endorphins, thereby increasing your energy frequency, which facilitates accessing your own truth.
When in fear, visualize a safe place and mentally immerse yourself in that place.
Trust and Surrender to your path in life- your soul mission. By doing so, you will help ensure that fear doesn’t stay in the driver’s seat.

DISCOVER YOUR SOUL MISSION
One of the noteworthy benefits of Living in Alignment ( i.e., living in partnership with your Soul) is to discover your Soul mission.
From the Living in Alignment perspective everyone has a Soul mission or calling in life, and you are intended to access this and equally if not more importantly, you’re here to accomplish your Soul mission.
It is the not knowing or having resistance to and or fear of accomplishing our soul mission that causes mental conflict, distress, and unrest for many people.
The first step in gaining access to your Soul mission is by having a sincere desire/ intention of wanting to know what your Soul mission is… having a sincere intention focuses/ directs your mind. Secondly, make sure you pose the question of wanting to know what your Soul mission is to your Soul (a term I use to refer to your spiritual self-Source energy that dwells within you) and not your mind. I can attest that you’ll gain access to what your Soul mission is and the answer will be transmitted to your human self/ mind.
You’ll know when your Soul mission is transmitted to your mind because when it is revealed, your body will feel energized, your mind will feel relieved, and you’ll feel the reverberation of the “rightness” about the answer throughout your beingness.
Keep in the forefront that your Soul will issue wake up calls when you’re off track or heading in that direction as it pertains to your Soul mission. You find and maintain your energetic homeostasis by actively pursuing/ engaging in your Soul mission.
You have already experienced this phenomenon along with the wake up calls becoming more pronounced when you don’t take heed to the guidance and directives that your Soul is continuously offering. The spiritual or energetic aspect of who you are serves as a built-in check and balance system that is intended to assist you to be living up to your full potential and accomplishing your Soul mission.
To reiterate, you won’t access your Soul mission or calling in life by attempting to “figure” it out, it is by connecting with your spiritual self-Soul that you will discover what your Soul mission is as well as how to go about accomplishing it in ways that will keep you grounded in both the physical world and in the world of mystery.

Benefits of Living in Alignment…
There are many noteworthy benefits to Living in Alignment. You will experience these benefits as soon as begin to listen to and follow your intuition. 'Nothing , I just helped him cry'
EXPERIENCE SUSTAINABLE RECOVERY FROM ADDICTION...
“You can have sobriety without recovery but you can’t have recovery without sobriety”...
What this slogan means is that although sobriety and recovery are not mutually exclusive nor are they one and the same. Many people have sobriety but are ‘white knuckling it’ so to speak which is the result of not identifying and or sufficiently addressing the underlying causes that are keeping dependence in the driver’s seat.
From the Living in Alignment perspective abuse, addiction, and/ or relapse are not the problems, but symptoms of underlying causes.
These underlying causes are placed into four categories:
(1) Having a chemical imbalance in the brain. Many people who have addictions have a co-occurring disorder, such as a mood disorder, anxiety disorder, ADD, etc. Many people who have addictions are attempting to self-medicate a pre-existing mental condition with a mood altering substance and/ or process (i.e., behavior).
(2) Having unresolved issues from the past and or present. Many people who have addictions have unfinished business with their past and/ or in their current lives, be it with themselves, other people, and/ or the power that is greater than the resources of their mind involving experiences, choices, decisions, and/ or events.
(3) Having a limited or faulty personal life philosophy. This consist of beliefs, perceptions, expectations, attitudes (i.e., cognitions) about themselves, addictions, other people, Source energy, life, etc. that are getting in the way or preventing them from living up to their full potential, manifesting satisfying and nurturing relationships, and experiencing fulfillment, etc.
(4) Having ineffective relational and other skills to live life on its terms. This may include having low self-esteem; a lack of or no functional boundaries (w/ self and/ or with others); not being able to manage their emotional, mental, physical, spiritual, or behavioral realities; not being able to manage stressors; not knowing what their needs and wants are and/ or how to get them met; not being able to live in moderation and/ or create balance in their lives. In other words, many people in recovery are functioning at a deficit when it comes to being and living in the world.
Usually people with addictions have a combination of underlying causes that are keeping dependence in the driver’s seat. The strategy that the Living in Alignment approach uses to ensure sustainable recovery is to:
To determine if there is a chemical imbalance a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation along with a medical examination and a complete blood panel is conducted to determine if there is a condition(s) present and whether or not the cause is biological and/ or medical. This can be a tricky process, for addictions and physical conditions can induce or mimic mental conditions. Also, stressors and trauma ( I define trauma as any experience or event that is less than nurturing) can cause mental conditions and/ or make existing conditions worse.
With unresolved issues, the protocol is to assist a person to examine experiences and/ or events that have or are currently taking place in their lives that are producing chronic stress ( such as: inadequate parenting, divorce, death, illness, heartache, to name a few) and help people understand how their unresolved issues/ stressors are impacting their overall functioning and well being, fostering victim consciousness and manifesting as addictions.
As it pertains to a one’s personal life philosophy, the Living in Alignment approach recognizes the necessity of identify limiting and/ or faulty beliefs, perceptions, expectations, etc. to understand how these cognitions are impacting the person’s life. Belief it or not, like it or not, the fact of the matter is that your cognitions are co-creating your reality. This translates to “what you think about, is what you bring about!” The good news is that you can modify and or replace limiting and/ or faulty beliefs, perceptions, and the like.
With respects to life skills, you can learn skills to live in mutually satisfying ways with people and manage life on its terms. The Living in Alignment approach customizes treatment to the needs and concerns of the individual. These skills include developing healthy self-esteem; developing functional boundaries with your own mind and with other people; becoming emotional present with yourself and with others; accessing needs and wants; finding balance and other healthy lifestyle practices.
Along with identifying and addressing underlying causes that keep dependence in the driver’s seat, the Living in Alignment approach focuses on the psycho, social, educational, physical, spiritual challenges of all stages in recovery.

One of the important facts of life, is that change is a given…
It doesn’t matter what you do to prevent it from happening you and your life are in an ongoing process of change…
Are you someone who has and continues to expend a lot of time and energy resisting the changes that have already happened or are currently happening in your life?
You’re not alone, many people are consciously or unconsciously resisting change.
The most common an overlooked way in which resistance plays out is when you view and place experiences and events into categories of good or bad; right or wrong; positive or negative, and reject those experiences and/ or events that you deem to be bad, wrong, or negative…
This is referred to as being dualistic...
From the perspective of Living in Alignment, the tendency to view experiences and events from a dualistic lens is a primary factor that gets in your way of accepting the changes that have occured, are, or shall be occuring in your life…
If you’re interested in living in a state of serenity and contentment, and endeavor to pursue personal growth and transformation it will be necessary to learn how to embrace change…
Instead of viewing experiences and the events from a dualistic lens, view them from a place of neutrality, an instead of resisting them, start reprogramming your mind to accept changes for what they are-- something that is happening in the here and now of your life (this doesn’t mean you have to like the changes)...
What if it is true that all of the experiences and events (i.e., changes) that have, are or will occur in your life have the “inherent potential” of benefiting you ”?”
This concept is intended to take down your mental defenses and open your mind to greater awareness...
Wouldn’t you want to know what these benefits are ”?”
In this context, benefits are comprised of insights, gifts, and/ or lessons…
Keep in the forefront that if you want to recognize the benefits from the experiences and events that have or are happening in your life and in the world around you, your mind will be required to move into a position of neutrality… this is accomplished by:
In addition, other tried and true spiritual practices that foster neutrality are to develop your capacity to be present, to accept what is, and to open up to the experiences and events in your life…
From the Living in Alignment perspective, all of the experiences and events taking place in your life are intended to increase your awareness about your humanity, your spirituality, and your existential questions...
Equally if not more importantly your increased awareness is intended to illuminate the workings of Source energy in your daily life. Why is this so important? Because the more your mind recognizes the presence of Source energy in your life and in the world around you, the more you’ll want to know about, connect to, and partner with this energy that is greater than the resources of your mind.
A positive feedback loop gets created whereby with increased awareness comes greater understanding, and with greater understanding comes more awareness and more understanding, and so on and so forth facilitating continuous personal growth and transformation in your life…

In a previous blog, I identified the term “Source energy” to name the power that is greater than the resources of your egoic mind/ intellect. This power is consciousness itself ! It doesn’t matter if you identify with this power as an entity and or as an energy or for that matter what name you use to refer to this power. What really matters is you know or come to know that this power is real, that you can live in partnership with this venergy, and that you can have a conscious experience of this vital relationship in your daily life!
I have listed the noteworthy qualities of Source energy. Their definitions give voice to my personal experiences of the workings of Source energy in my life (affirmed by a countless number of people from all religious traditions and spiritual paths around the world).
From the perspective of the Living in Alignment Model, Source energy is a benevolent, intelligent, interactive, ingenious, creative, omnipresent, unifying, self-generating energy system.
Benevolent: Source energy is a loving presence in our lives.
Intelligent: Source energy is the wellspring of universal wisdom.
Interactive: you can interrelate with Source energy energetically as well as physically in your relationships with all life forms (because you and all life forms are unique reflections of Source energy).
Ingenious: Source energy is highly skillful in its ability first to get the attention of, and then to work with your human self/ egoic mind.
Omnipresent: Source energy is within everyone and everything.
Unifying: Source energy illuminates your inter-connectedness with all life forms.
In addition, Source energy is not static, but in a constant state of evolution.
The Living in Alignment process will offer you the opportunity to increase your understanding and subjectively experience these qualities and the workings of Source energy in your daily life. The Living in Alignment Program will assist you to identify how your egoic mind/ conditioning has a tendency to get in your way of accessing, deepening/ partnering, and or having a conscious relationship with Source energy in your daily life.

If you’re on a path to “spiritual awakening” you already know about the importance and necessity of Trusting and Surrendering as a means to deepen your relationship with your Soul ( a term I use to refer to your spiritual self or Source energy within yourself) but, do you find yourself experiencing difficulty integrating these spiritual practices into your daily life?
Do you regularly use the expression “Let your will not my will be done” to affirm that you want to have your Soul lead your life?
Even with the most sincere invocations/ prayers, you may be unaware that your desire to follow the guidance and directives of your Soul is often accompanied by a list of contingencies. Which may sound something like “I will follow your guidance and directives‘ Soul/ Source energy’ but don’t ask me to make a geographic move, change careers, leave a relationship, etc. Having contingencies is a way in which your mind/ intellect is getting in the way and not allowing your Soul to lead your life.
One of the reasons for people having contingencies is that they unconsciously don’t truly believe that their Soul always has their best interests in the forefront.
From the perspective of Living in Alignment, Trust equates to yielding to your Soul and Surrender equates to merging with your Soul. When you’re listening to your Soul’s guidance you’re yielding and when you’re following your Soul’s guidance/promptings you’re merging with your Soul. Living in Alignment occurs when you are listening to and following the guidance/ promptings that Source energy continually provides.
Trusting and Surrendering to Source energy is about training your mind to defer to and rely upon Source energy-to have this vital energy lead your life.
To “Let go and let God” will require that your mind learns how to Trust & Surrender.
In your daily life, Trust and Surrender translates to getting and keeping your mind out of the driver’s seat. Instead of trying to control the outcome of what is happening in your life, your task is to accept what is happening (however, that doesn’t mean you have to like what is happening for one second).
Instead of becoming hypervigilant about looking for the answers to your prayers. You go about living your life with the mindset that the answers to your prayers are always forthcoming. Knowing that Source energy is working behind the scenes to orchestrate the best possible outcome for everything that is happening in your life. Trusting & Surrendering is about handing over the reigns to Source energy. The information that your mind requires to feel assured that all is well shall be revealed on an as needed basis. Again, your task is to stop trying to control outcomes ( such as resisting or not accepting what is happening or by being attached to a particular outcome).
Developing the practice of being present in your daily activities will assist your mind to connect with and become aware of the workings of Source energy in your life. With increased awareness, your mind will gain the proof it needs to acknowledge that your Soul is more qualified, more skilled, and more experienced at being in the driver’s seat than your human self/ mind.
As your awareness of the workings of Source energy increases your mind will become more and more assured that Living in Alignment is a practical, effective, and reliable approach to living your life…
Your ability to Trust & Surrender to Source energy will develop naturally every time you listen to and follow the guidance and directives from your spiritual self- your Soul!

Another working hypothesis of the Living in Alignment Model, is that when you’re disconnected from Source energy your human self/ mind will most likely experience fear. Many people are needlessly living in a fear-based reality because they have a lack of or no conscious connection to Source energy. Being disconnected from Source energy is the result of having limited or faulty beliefs, perceptions, and expectations about Source energy.
Some of the common indicators that fear is in the driver’s seat are worry, doubt, angst, unease, insecurity, and anxiety which adversely impacts your mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual realities. To be sure, living in a fear-based reality has undesirable repercussions upon your overall sense of health and well-being.
The next time you’re feeling consumed by fear experience what happens when you focus your intention and attention on connecting with Source energy. Use the method(s) that work for you in connecting with Source energy (such as prayer, breathwork, visualization, meditation, yoga, walks in nature, etc.).
Also, the more externally focused you are the more you’ll live in a fear-based reality. Being primarily externally resourced is when you’re overly identified with your human self and the world in front of your eyes. When this occurs there will be a tendency to awfulize, and/ or catastrophize, which creates, exacerbates, and perpetuates a disconnection from Source energy.
Versus being internally resourced or when you’re deferring and relying upon Source energy to led your life. When you’re internally resourced, you’re doing less figuring out and more feeling into your life. More specifically, when you’re being internally resourced you listen to and follow your intuition- which is the voice of your Soul or Source energy within. Listening to and following your intuition is always advantageous with no exceptions!!!
You’ll discover that the more internally resourced you become the less fear you’ll experience and the more connected you’ll feel with Source energy.
